What is Rhinoplasty Operation?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical operation performed to change the shape of the nose or to improve its functional disorders. The rhinoplasty operation, which facilitates breathing by eliminating breathing difficulties, helps repair deformities. The rhinoplasty procedure, which requires general anesthesia, aims to make the nose better aesthetically and functionally.

How is the Process in Rhinoplasty Operation?

To create space for surgical intervention in the rhinoplasty operation, a small incision is made through the nose (closed rhinoplasty) or between the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty).

Rhinoplasty operation can change the cartilage tissue in the nose, and the structure of the skin, and bone. The surgical details of the operation are shaped by the specialist doctor according to the face shape of the patient. The operation can take about 1,5 to 3 hours.

What Should Be Considered Before Rhinoplasty?

About two weeks before the rhinoplasty operation, the use of aspirin or similar blood thinners should be stopped. If any disease was passed shortly before the operation, the doctor is informed. In such cases, despite the risk of infection, the operation may be postponed or some measures may be taken with the advice of the doctor.

Smoking and alcohol use should be minimized approximately two weeks before surgery, and if possible, it should be completely stopped. Smoking and alcohol, which adversely affect the healing process, will be the best approach to quitting because they reduce body resistance. It is very important not to increase the risk of infection before the operation. For this reason, it is necessary to take precautions to prevent skin deformations caused by sunlight or laser beam.

Who Can Be a Candidate for Rhinoplasty Operation?

Since bone formation is about to be completed between the ages of 16-18, rhinoplasty operation is not performed on individuals younger than 18 years of age. However, if there is a visible aesthetic disorder or a disorder that adversely affects health, the process can be started with the approval of the doctor and the patient. Rhinoplasty operation is not suitable for individuals with hemophilia, hypertension, diabetes, heart diseases, and severe psychological disorders.

Before the rhinoplasty surgery, the doctor obtains detailed information about the medical history of the patient. As a result of a comprehensive physical examination, the doctor determines whether the individual is a suitable candidate for a rhinoplasty operation. Then, the details of the procedure are determined by taking into account the general health status of the candidate, face shape, nose structure, and desired aesthetic appearance.

How is the Recovery Process After Rhinoplasty?

After the rhinoplasty operation, the patient can rest in the hospital for one night if necessary. Since general anesthesia is applied, it will be safer for the companion to stay with the patient. After the operation, the patient is discharged and continues the rest period at home. It is important to rest in a comfortable and hygienic home environment so that the healing process does not prolong. There are some points to be considered after a rhinoplasty operation. If these issues are given importance, rhinoplasty treatment will make its effect felt as soon as possible.

For the first 48 - 72 hours after surgery, ice should be applied to the eyes intermittently at regular intervals (15 minutes per hour). Side effects such as bruising and swelling that may be seen after the operation will decrease day by day thanks to the measures to be taken. Sleep pattern is very important after rhinoplasty surgery. Pillows that will keep the head area high during sleep should be preferred. You can shower comfortably one week after the procedure, but it is important to avoid contact with water beforehand. Skin care should not be done for an average of 3 months. Excessive mimics should be avoided for 1.5 weeks and heavy exercises should not be done.

Simple walking-style exercises can be done one week after the procedure, but sports activities such as football, volleyball, and basketball, which are likely to be hit in the nose area or have a high risk of inflammation, should be avoided. After the rhinoplasty operation, a doctor's examination should be performed for control purposes in the first month and third, sixth and twelfth months. The factors to be considered should be considered to pass the healing process in the most comfortable and fast way.
